Monday Mastery - Relationship Approach & The Lonely Tree

Monday Mastery - Relationship Approach & The Lonely Tree

Health

During a very dark period, what was the best thing you ever did for your mental health?

Does it make sense to do more of that now?

Relationships

A lonely tree is something I have always found beautiful. I am not sure why.

I saw one the other day on a coastal walk and it sent me down a rabbit hole pondering the pros and cons of the lonely tree.

A solitary tree in an open field can indeed grow more quickly at first because it has little competition for sunlight, water, and nutrients—enjoying immediate access to all it needs. However, its rapid, unchecked growth can make the trunk and branches more vulnerable over time.

Without the shelter of nearby trees, a lone tree faces harsher winds, storms, and fluctuations in temperature, and it lacks the communal support and natural buffer that a cluster of trees provides.

In many ways, our human relationships are very similar: standing alone may seem simpler or even advantageous early on, but without the positive influence of trusted pals, we risk becoming more fragile in the face of life’s storms.

We grow stronger, healthier, and happier when we surround ourselves with people who complement our strengths, share our burdens, and benefit from our contributions in return.

What can you do to be the “friendly tree” that thrives through connection rather than isolation?

Health

Doctors can't guarantee good health. Your dream physique won't be emailed to you by a nutritionist. Knowledge doesn’t magically appear in your brain.

Wealth won’t simply be gifted by a mentor. Fitness doesn't come from just watching a workout video.

You can manifest all you want but in the end, true change is found in your own hands.

The good news is, with the latest technology and an almost infinite amount of information at your fingertips, now is the best time in history to be a high agency person and take matters into your own hands.

Reflection + Action = Progress.

Wealth

Do you have a framework for spending?

Having a framework eliminates decision fatigue, minimises waste and stretches your hard-earned mula further!

Here's mine:

  1. Material things: Do I absolutely need it? If I just want it, does the pleasure it will give me justify the cost? Can I spend on quality now to avoid a false economy
  2. Investments: Can I afford to lose this investment? Can I afford to invest for the long run? What's the cost of not investing now?
  3. Experiences: Will the money it will cost be worth the experiences and/or memories I will gain? If I extend time horizons, what would I regret more, the money spent or the missed experience?
  4. Self-development and health: Is the money spent worth the amount of time it would take me to figure out the answers alone? If I don't spend the money what will be the negative impact on my health? Is it worth it?

Do you practise solitude?

Before technology took over, sitting with yourself for a few minutes a day without any outside stimulation was common practice.

Today, it's very rare, but intentionally making it a daily habit to listen to yourself will do you many favours.

Expect a better relationship with yourself, boredom and your priorities. Whether with your journal or completely alone, solitude helps your uniqueness flourish. This is the path to enjoying the journey.

Health

Suceeded mind X post

There is so much health advice out there, and lots of it is contradictory. It can be overwhelming. My advice having tried to follow them is that the most powerful insights come from tuning into your own body. Learn to trust yourself and observe what truly works for you.

Wealth

What level of annual income is enough for you?

Before you read on, think to yourself how much would be enough for you.

Was the number roughly 3x 4x what you’re on now? Studies have shown that this seems to be the case all the way up, £100k thinks £300k would be enough £1m thinks £3m and so on.

Without some mental gymnastics, it's easy for the goalposts to move.

True wealth is knowing what is enough.

Relationships

Happiest days reflection. A perfect pondering for you at this time of year.

If it is your first time doing it, take some time and write down your 5 happiest days.

Then set yourself a reminder for next year to review this list and see if you have anything to add to it. A nice way to collect your absolute top memories as they accumulate over the years.

If you're anything like me you might spot that every single one of the happiest days involved loved ones and experiences with them. This is a good reminder for myself to double down on these in 2025.
